Ivory Coast Ban on Skin Whitening Creams to Set…
Many people in Ivory Coast will be running to Ghana to buy the skin lighting creams as the government has decided to be tougher on the bleaching culture in the country by banning all skin whitening creams.
The ban affects all whitening creams and lotion containing mercury, cortisone or more than two percent hydroquinone.
The health ministry on Wednesday said that the reason for banning these creams and lotions is the lasting damage it causes to people’s health. Bleaching is a big problem in West Africa and skin whitening creams are extensively used in the region. The ministry said “Lightening creams and lotions…that de-pigment the skin…are now forbidden.”
