Celebrating Easter in Gambia
We take this opportunity to wish our Christian brothers and sisters a happy Easter in advance. It is indeed a great moment; one for sharing time and good memories with families, friends and relatives.
It is a significant day in the annals of the Christian religion. Going by the spirit of our joy and happiness can keep hope alive in our hearts as well as in the hearts of others. During this time, virtues such as doing something special for a dear one is vital. It really feels good when that special Easter spirit continues all year round.
In fact, it is quite gratifying to note that the culture of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence in the country is strengthening day by day.
This is starkly manifested in the celebration of the religious feasts of the dominant religions – Islam and Christianity – by both peoples. This is indeed religious tolerance at the core and an explanation of the peace and tranquility that the country has long been enjoying.
This is all the more reason President Jammeh keeps talking about religious tolerance in the country. All of this is possible as a result of his efforts in creating that atmosphere of camaraderie and love among Gambian people regardless of ethnic disparity.
