Woman who stabbed Martin Luther King in 1958 dies aged 98
The woman who stabbed the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. more than a half-century ago in a failed assassination attempt has died.
Izola Ware Curry, 98, died at Hillside Manor nursing home in Queens on March 7, The Smoking Gun reported.
Curry, then 42, plunged a letter opener into the civil rights leader’s chest during a 1958 Harlem book signing. King, 39, was assassinated a decade later in Memphis. During a speech the day before he died, King referred to his stabbing.
