The reason why Montserrat celebrates St. Patrick’s Day is fascinating. Montserrat is a Caribbean island that is a British Overseas Territory. It is 16 km long and 11 km wide, and called The Emerald Isle of the Caribbean both for its resemblance to coastal Ireland and for the Irish ancestry of some of its inhabitants. It is tiny, and in no explainable proximity to Ireland. So what’s the deal?
