Tunisians Defy Terror to Celebrate Independence Day
Tunisians celebrate independence day following terror attack; #JeSuisBardo social media campaign launched.
Just two days after Tunisia’s worst terror attack since an al-Qaida suicide bombing on a synagogue in 2002,thousands of Tunisians took to the streets Friday to mark the country’s independence day.
While some independence day events were scaled down, including the official ceremony having been held discreetly in the presidential palace, thousands of marchers wearing clothes in the national colors and waving Tunisian flags, made it clear that the attacks were not going to scare them.
“We’re not afraid. We’re ready to resist, women and men together. They won’t get far (militants) because Tunisiais a country of freedom, of democracy. We’re not afraid of IS or groups like them,” said actress Ines Lahfidi from Tunis.
