Sentence Means Pistorius Could Be out in 10 Months
Pretoria – “Mr Pistorius, please stand. The following is what I consider to be a sentence that is firm and just both to society and the accused. Count one, culpable homicide: The sentence imposed is a maximum imprisonment of five years.”
With this sentence, Judge Thokozile Masipa brought to an end the seven-month trial of paralympian Oscar Pistorius.
Here are some of the main points of the sentencing:
– Five years in prison on manslaughter conviction.
– Three-year suspended sentence for discharging a firearm in a restaurant.
– According to experts, Pistorius must serve at least a sixth of his sentence, meaning he could be eligible for parole after 10 months.
