Proscovia Alengot Oromait: Meet the Continents Youngest Politician
Because some people answer the call of public service during their own challenging times.
In 2012 Proscovia Alengot Oromait became the youngest MP in Africa, at the ripe ole age of 19, fulfilling her fathers dreams and taking his seat after his death earlier in the year.
“One of my daughters will go back and become a politician,” Oromait allegedly told her. “It’s you that I want, since you are talkative and educated. Since you debated at Mchoka and won, I want you to go and become a politician,” Ms Alengot quotes her late father.
