Prince Plays Surprise Concert at the Hollywood Palladium
By Nathaniel Simons, The Africa Channel
Real Music. The theme of a surprise Prince concert this weekend.
If you’re like the majority of Prince fans, you’d be willing to stop, drop, and roll at the news of a Prince Concert. And this was the case this past weekend at the Hollywood Palladium, where 600 die-hard fans were able to score tickets to the weekend’s best-kept secret.
The atmosphere? In true Prince fashion, chandeliers adorned the stage with purple and gold lights streaming back and forth. But the ambience was of trivial importance to Prince, who requested that the lights be lowered and repeatedly affirmed, “This is Real Music.”
And we couldn’t agree more. He played all the classics: “Musicology,” “Purple Rain,” “1999,” “Take Me with You,” and “Cool.” Prince even performed a duet of “Nothing Compares 2 U” with his backup singer, Shelby. With the audience fully engaged, Prince and his talented band, 3rdEyeGirl, played new and timeless hits from 10:30 p.m. until 4 a.m.
This isn’t the first time we’ve been able to check out the music legend in full force. We previously worked with Prince on a special called “Prince: Behind the Music.”
