Nigeria and Chad Join Efforts to Fend Off Boko Haram
Nigerian and Chadian armies have fought off the latest wave of Boko Haram attacks on the Borno state capital, Maiduguri.
On Sunday, Boko Haram insurgents attacked the southern and eastern edge of Maiduguri, setting off explosives as they tried to enter the city.
Chris Olukolade, spokesman for the Defence ministry, said the assault on the town, was “contained” and that “the terrorists incurred massive casualties”.
“The situation is calm as mopping up operation in the affected area is on-going,” Olukolade was quoted saying.
The invasion was Boko Haram’s second attempt, in a week, to seize Maiduguri.
