For the tenth day, South Africa’s first black president remains in the hospital for a recurring lung infection. Since June 8th, 94-year-old anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela has remained in serious condition but has recently shown sustained improvement in his health. At the Mediclinic Heart Hospital in Pretoria, family members continue to stay by his side. Upon her arrival on Monda, Zenani Mandela-Dlamini, Mandela’s daughter, and other family members were seen outside the hospital as they took down get-well-soon messages, balloons, flags and flowers for her father.
On Father’s Day, President Jacob Zuma informed everyone of Mandela’s health improvement at the Youth Day celebration in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal. He asked the audience to continue to pray for an improvement in Mandela’s health and to join him in wishing Mandela a very happy Father’s Day.
Graca Machel, the wife of Nelson Mandela, appreciates the continuous support of everyone across the globe. According to a statement, Machel is grateful for the love and generosity that has come their way “to lighten the burden of anxiety, bringing [them] love, comfort and hope.”
