Cuba Holidays: Tips for Booking Hotels and Homestays
Matt & Viv Wise write
We are wondering if you could offer some advice. We are looking to travel to Cuba slightly off season (November), we don’t wish to go all inclusive but travel around and see the real country. Should we book hotels and “casas particulares” (private homestays) prior to leaving, or should we just book the first night, and then check into accommodation as we go?

I’d recommend booking the first three nights in Havana. Cuba’s capital has much to take in, including the Spanish colonial squares and streets of Old Havana, absorbing museums, great bars and spirited nightlife. There are good reasons to book in advance the rest of your trip beyond Havana. With the thaw in relations between the United States and Cuba, holiday companies are reporting a sharp upturn in bookings to the island this year, and November is actually a pretty busy time of year in Cuba. Prime places such as the tobacco-growing area of Viñales and the colonial gem of Trinidad have limited good hotel accommodation, and the best casas particulares are often full.
